Here is the second installment of our five-part Spring 2013 Outdoor Furnishings Trends blog series. Each week we are posting about the latest colors, accessories, and decor including what’s hot now and simple ways to update your existing outdoor furnishings. This time, outdoor accessories.
The style and color of your outdoor furniture play a big role in creating the effect of bringing the indoors out, but the right accessories are key to any beautiful outdoor decor. Firepots, glazed pottery, rugs, throw pillows, wall art, and fountains can perk up any outdoor space and make it feel more like home. Learn how to make the most of outdoor accessories in your backyard with these simple tips:
Find balance. If you have too few accessories outside your space can look boring and uninviting, but if you have too many it can look messy and cluttered. Finding balance with your outdoor accessories is all about knowing your space. Once the furniture or other main focus items are in place, look for spaces that need a little something: a large blank wall behind the sofa, the bare chat table, an empty corner of the patio that you see from inside the house, or maybe the lifeless back fence. When you have identified the places that need a little something, start with one or two items at first and then decide if you need more.
Have fun with color. Outside is the perfect place to use your favorite shade of hot pink or cobalt blue that just didn’t seem to go with anything inside the house, and accessories are the best way to do this. Fun colors on outdoor accessories brighten your outdoor space and can make your backyard feel like home. Outdoor accessories are often bright, fun colors because they contrast nicely with the neutral colors and greens found in nature. So have fun with color outside in your accessories, it will make all the difference.
Change it up. So you spent some money on your outdoor furniture a couple of years ago and everything is still like new, but you want a fresh look. Accessories are your answer. A new set of throw pillows for the sofa and loveseat, a fresh rug on the patio, new glazed pots by the window, firepots around the pool, and some pretty butterflies on the wall go a long way to creating a new look and feel for your outdoor space without breaking the bank or starting from scratch.
Accessories are the perfect way to liven up your outdoor space, utilize color in your decor, and to provide a fresh, new look for your backyard.
